Why Users Are Switching Away from WeTransfer

WeTransfer is one of the most well-known file sending services, but its free tier comes with real frustrations. Files expire after 7 days. There are ads on the download page. The 2GB free limit sounds generous until you need to send something larger. And every transfer requires the recipient to click a link and wait for a download — there is no live room where everyone sees the file instantly.

For people who share files regularly — especially with the same group of colleagues, classmates, or family members — these limitations add up fast.

The Main Complaints About WeTransfer Free

• Files expire after 7 days — you have to re-upload constantly.
• Ads shown to the person downloading your file.
• No real-time sharing — the recipient has to wait for a download link.
• No option for sharing text, notes, or links alongside files.
• Requires an email address to send.

How ShareByWiFi Works Differently

ShareByWiFi is built around the idea of a shared room, not a one-way transfer. You open the site, upload a file, and everyone in the same room can see and download it instantly. No email, no signup, no ads.

For local sharing — like in an office or classroom — the Network Room connects everyone on the same WiFi automatically. For remote sharing, create a Private Room and share the link or QR code. Anyone who joins can access everything in the room immediately.

Drop it now, pick it up later: the person you're sharing with doesn't need to be online at the same time. Files and text stay in the room after you close the page, for 24 hours after anyone last opened it.

ShareByWiFi vs WeTransfer — Feature Comparison

When Should You Use ShareByWiFi Instead of WeTransfer?

• Sharing with a group — upload once and everyone in the room gets the file, not just one recipient.
• Recurring transfers — no re-uploading every 7 days when you share with the same team daily.
• Classroom and teaching — share assignments with the whole class via a single QR code scan.
• Quick office transfers — faster than email and no cloud storage needed.
• Privacy-sensitive files — nothing is stored permanently on our servers.
